Magic Johnson shocked everyone when he decided to quit being the Los Angeles Lakers president. Now, we may know why. Find out inside…
Earlier this month, Magic Johnson pulled a move no one saw coming.
The former Lakers player (who played for 13 years in the organization) abruptly quit as the Los Angeles Lakers’ president of basketball operations after serving in the role for nearly two years. At the time, he explained he made the move because he wanted to go back to enjoying life as a wealthy businessman. He also said he got tired of being fined by the NBA for ‘tampering” when he would tweet his thoughts about basketball on Twitter.
Magic didn’t tell anyone – including owner Jeanie Buss and general manager Rob Pelinka – about his decision before the press conference, which went down right before the final game of the Lakers’ sixth consecutive losing season. Oop.
Turns out, there may be more to the story.
According to new reports, some shady emails exchanged between Buss and Pelinka may have had something to do with his exit. Apparently, management was trashing Magic’s performance as president. And since he somehow was copied on all the emails, he decided he was DONE.
